Children aged 3 to 8. Early development is for ages 3–6; preparation for school, individual sessions and group classes are for ages 4–8.

07Which program should I choose?

Choose by age and goal. Ages 3–6: early development. Ages 4–8 getting ready for school: preparation for school. A child who needs their own pace: individual sessions. Speech and social skills in a group: group classes. If you are unsure, write your child’s age in the form and we will suggest a program.

08How many children are in a group?

Up to 15, so the teacher can give each child enough attention. In individual sessions one teacher works with one child.

09Which teaching methods do you use?

Montessori and Reggio Emilia, with play-based learning, sensory activities and creative work.

10Can my child combine individual and group classes?

Yes. Individual lessons can be combined with group classes. In preparation for school, one-to-one work usually starts at age 5–6.

11Do you teach music?

Yes. The music studio has a full-size piano, children’s drums, xylophones, synthesizers and ukuleles. Children take one-to-one lessons or group sessions, with music theory alongside; the price is given on request. See music lessons in Kanata.

12Do you offer consultations for parents?

Yes. The team includes educators and psychologists, who hold individual consultations for children and their parents; the price is given on request. The centre also runs workshops and seminars for parents and gives regular feedback on your child. See additional services.

School readiness and EQAO

18How do you prepare children for kindergarten and school?

Preparation for school (ages 4–8, $60) works on speech, memory and attention, and fine motor skills that prepare the hand for writing, in a group of up to 15. From age 5–6, group classes are combined with one-to-one work. Skills to check at home before JK/SK: the kindergarten readiness checklist for Ontario.

19What do my child’s EQAO results mean, and should I be worried?

EQAO reports reading, writing and math on Levels 1–4. Level 3 meets the provincial standard (about B− to B+), Level 4 surpasses it, Level 2 approaches it and Level 1 is much below it. EQAO notes that many Level 2 students in math were close to the standard, so compare the result with the report card and ask the teacher which skills to practise next (source: eqao.com).
